Can RCB and CSK Reach the Top Four in IPL 2024?
IPL 2024 Playoffs Qualification Scenarios
Teams in Contention
- Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR): KKR has already secured a spot in the playoffs by winning 9 out of 12 matches.
- Rajasthan Royals (RR): RR needs to win all of their remaining three matches to secure a top-two finish and strengthen their position in the playoffs.
- Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS): Unfortunately, both MI and PBKS have been eliminated from the tournament as they have not been able to secure enough wins to qualify for the playoffs.
Remaining Contenders for Last Two Spots
-
Chennai Super Kings (CSK):
- Need to win remaining two matches.
- Decent Net Run Rate (NRR) of 0.491.
- Could be in trouble if they lose to RR, as then Rajasthan, KKR, SRH, and either DC or LSG can finish with 16 points.
- If they lose to RR, they must hope SRH and DC lose their remaining matches and LSG lose to MI to stay on 14 points.
-
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB):
- Won four in a row but with 10 points and NRR of 0.217.
- Might struggle even with two more wins, as at least four teams have the chance to finish with 16 points.
- Only scenario for RCB to qualify: SRH and CSK lose their remaining games, and LSG win just one of their remaining matches.
-
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG):
- Poor NRR could knock them out even with 16 points.
- Need other teams to stay below 14 points.
- Must win big to end up above at least two other teams to qualify.
-
Delhi Capitals (DC):
- Need to win both remaining matches.
- Have a better run rate than LSG.
- If they beat RCB but lose to LSG, they could still finish among the top four if LSG lose to MI and other teams in contention do not touch 14 points.
-
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH):
- Need to win remaining games to qualify.
- Good NRR gives them an excellent chance.
- One more win will put them in a favorable position.
- Playing last two games at home against bottom three teams.
-
Gujarat Titans (GT):
- Very tough qualification due to terrible NRR of -1.063.
- Need huge wins to finish above at least two other teams.
- Best case: finish with 14 points and jostle for last two spots with three other teams.
